Show/hide toggler location not working in mobile view[edit source]
Since our last discussion I got a used iphone X, and have been learning some more about mobile view of wikis.
See the mobile view problem here:
Maybe the toggler CSS selectors are different in mobile view?
I also mentioned this problem here:
In the section currently titled: "Move toggle-link to the left, and adjust its margins". --Timeshifter (talk) 06:35, 2 January 2020 (UTC)
- I don't see a problem with mobile view on a desktop. It might be a while before I can test with mobile view on a phone. --Saftzie (talk) 08:14, 5 January 2020 (UTC)
- What are you seeing? I am seeing the show/hide toggler on the right side in mobile view in Firefox, Chrome, and Explorer. On a Windows 10 desktop PC.

I would like some help![edit source]
Hi, Saftzie, I have just created a wiki called AstroWiki, but when I click on the link address to the site, it doesn't load, it says that the wiki does not exist. It happened to my last wiki Battlepedia, but the Battlepedia site link takes me straight away to the site. --8ight (talk) 07:58, 5 January 2020 (UTC)
- The wiki exists, but it is empty of all content. --Saftzie (talk) 08:10, 5 January 2020 (UTC)
- You are correct! The wiki link is now working. But as of now, there is content on the main page. I need help getting rid of the main logo on the site. I wanted to upload another image. Could you help me import the privacy policy, disclaimers and the copyright pages from ShoutWiki? Can I have your permission to add the ShoutWiki policies to the AstroWiki's privacy policy, copyright and disclaimers page? --8ight (talk) 08:36, 5 January 2020 (UTC)
- Could you create me a favicon for AstroWiki, please? --8ight (talk) 08:46, 5 January 2020 (UTC)
- The text of ShoutWiki's policies is also covered by CC licensing. If you copy it, just attribute the source. You can change your wiki's logo by uploading s:w:en.astrowiki:File:Wiki.png. Similarly, you can create and upload your own favicon, if you wish. --Saftzie (talk) 09:32, 5 January 2020 (UTC)
Help me with deleting another account on my wiki[edit source]
I created my private wiki on Shoutwiki, access to which is possible only with me and invited users. Later, I created an account for one person on my wiki, then going to invite this person and give him the login and password for this account. But for some reason this person will not work as member in my project. I would like to delete his account, that is, his member page and his talk page, completely and without a trace for reasons of privacy. Without the ability to restore this account, so that no one has his login, password and the ability to see and change his mail. Can you help me please with deleting that account on my wiki - deleting it? Cerberus (talk) 17:10, 6 January 2020 (UTC)
- Accounts themselves cannot be deleted. You can uninvite the user (Special:Uninvite) and delete the User: and User_talk: pages. As with any other pages, whatever is deleted can be undeleted, of course. --Saftzie (talk) 02:34, 7 January 2020 (UTC)
Prevent creation of main namespace pages by registered users less than 2 weeks old[edit source]
Recently, I had a bunch of new spam article pages created by registered users.
So I created another spam filter, but I have not enabled it yet:
Prevent creation of main namespace pages by registered users less than 2 weeks old.
It the code correct? I adapted the code from this filter:
Prevent creation of main namespace pages by unregistered users.
I made 2 changes.
I added 2 weeks (in seconds). So I changed user_age === 0
to user_age < 1209600
And I added & user_name
at the end. Will that make it work only for registered users? --Timeshifter (talk) 12:32, 17 January 2020 (UTC)
- Delete the
& user_name
name line, since only registered users will ever haveuser_age > 0
. You can incorporate 3 into 1, unless you want to add a condition& user_age > 0
. Remember that leaving filters publicly viewable provides spammers with a recipe to get around your filters. --Saftzie (talk) 22:07, 17 January 2020 (UTC)
Thanks. I guess I should hide the filters that have a time factor involved.
Are you saying filters 1 and 3 can be combined? Would this work?:
page_namespace % 2 === 0 & page_namespace !== 110 & page_id === 0 & user_age < 1209600 & ! user_blocked
--Timeshifter (talk) 01:05, 18 January 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks again. I incorporated filter 3 into filter 1. That leaves filters 1 and 2. They are both now private filters:
- s:w:cannabis:Special:AbuseFilter
- --Timeshifter (talk) 00:57, 19 January 2020 (UTC)
Wondering why some user pages with links slip through the abuse filter[edit source]
This filter:
No adding of links to user pages by new registered users.
I left up this user page with links that was created Jan 20, 2020:
Only a few such user pages have made it through the abuse filter. See the deletion log:
I count 9 since April that had to be manually deleted.
Here is the filter code:
page_namespace === 2 & user_age < 604800 & count( added_links ) > 0
--Timeshifter (talk) 21:59, 21 January 2020 (UTC)
- If you use the "Batch testing" tool to select the edits, you can see how AbuseFilter interpreted many of the variables. Some variables will change with the successful edit. For example, if the edit created the page, the page_id won't be reported as 0. The user page you mention above was created by a user that registered 28 Dec 2019, which is more than a week ago. --Saftzie (talk) 04:20, 22 January 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks. I noticed in batch testing and then examining that edit that user_age = 2198912 seconds. So that explains the successful edit. Where did you get that date of 28 Dec 2019? I don't see anything linked from s:w:cannabis:User:JereSiede43 with that info, unless I am missing it. --Timeshifter (talk) 13:10, 22 January 2020 (UTC)
Abuse filters. What does "throttled" mean? And why is the text red?[edit source]
The main abuse filter status text says "Enabled, throttled" and the text color is red:
Wondering what that means. --Timeshifter (talk) 22:02, 21 January 2020 (UTC)
- "Throttle" means the option "Trigger actions only if the user trips a rate limit" is selected. Red means AbuseFilter thinks there's an error in the filter or its settings. --Saftzie (talk) 04:23, 22 January 2020 (UTC)
- That option is not selected. See:
- s:w:cannabis:Special:AbuseFilter/1
- Here are the 2 options that are selected:
- Trigger these actions after giving the user a warning
- Prevent the user from performing the action in question
- I temporarily stopped hiding that filter so that you could look at it. Do I need to do this? Can you look at it if it is hidden?
- That's weird. When I stopped hiding it, the text is now black, and not red. --Timeshifter (talk) 13:20, 22 January 2020 (UTC)
- Oops, I interpreted the wrong "throttling." See mw:Extension:AbuseFilter for "Emergency throttling". MediaWiki automatically "throttles" restricted actions (like automatically demoting users with denied edits) on frequently triggered filters. I suspect that it may be a leftover from the very first version of that filter (the one that LCawte wrote). I've got a few filters on Hub that trigger much more often than the legitimate edit rate, but they've never been throttled. In any case, I don't think it has any effect, because I don't believe AbuseFilter is restricted on any wiki at ShoutWiki.
To see your private filters, I'd need to be an admin on your wiki or staff. I'm neither. --Saftzie (talk) 21:26, 22 January 2020 (UTC)- Filter 1 is back to "throttled" and red text again, even though it is still currently public. But you are saying I can ignore "throttled" and the red text?
s:w:cannabis:Special:AbuseFilter --Timeshifter (talk) 21:45, 22 January 2020 (UTC)- Yes, I believe so. --Saftzie (talk) 23:38, 22 January 2020 (UTC)
- The filters are working. So I will ignore the "throttled" and red text. Thanks again. --Timeshifter (talk) 16:06, 23 January 2020 (UTC)

Potential help?[edit source]
Hello Saftzie, you helped me a few years back on my Wiki, and I was hoping you might be able to help me again! I have been trying to get the Election infobox template to work on my Wiki, and for some reason, it just isn't working. I took the code from Wikipedia, which might've been my first problem. The images won't show up when I put the template into an article with images used on my Wiki. Any clue as to why this is? Any help would be appreciated! Scott (talk) 00:55, 28 January 2020 (UTC)
Wikis[edit source]
Please delete Sploder Wiki and Wikijunior. I'm focusing on only one wiki - and that is Stargazer Wiki! --Wikijunior (talk) 03:12, 17 February 2020 (UTC)
- I can delete the wiki directory pages on Hub. You'll need to send an email to staff to have the wikis themselves deleted. --Saftzie (talk) 04:28, 17 February 2020 (UTC)
- Who shall I contact? What is their email address? Could you at least delete the page [[Wikijunior]] because the wiki that I created will no longer be in use and will be inactive? Thanks! --Wikijunior (talk) 04:55, 17 February 2020 (UTC)
Rollback and bot reversion[edit source]
Hello. You have now twice reverted my edit to Help:Group rights. The ability to hide reversions from recent changes requires markbotedits
right, which by default is assigned to administrators, interns and staff, and that is also the case in Hub. Only user right given to rollback group is the rollback right itself. --miki-- (talk) 20:23, 6 June 2020 (UTC)
How to add phrase "cannabis light" to whitelist[edit source]
Please see: s:w:cannabis:Template:News_list
See this news item:
Note that I had to add the asterisk to get past the spam filter.
I tried entering the phrase in the whitelist here:
I just entered the 2 words with a space. It didn't help in whitelisting that phrase. Is there some special way it should be entered? Do I add quotes around the phrase? Or what should I do?
It's weird. I was able to enter the phrase in the title of this message, and successfully post it. But when I came back a little later for another edit the spam filter then blocked it. So I added the asterisk in the title too. --Timeshifter (talk) 21:48, 28 July 2020 (UTC)
- SpamBlacklist isn't what was blocking the edit. There's a global spam prevention tool that blocked that phrase across the entire farm, probably because there was a lot of spam that used it once. (There's a lot of stuff in there that's probably too broad, but it's a sledgehammer that works when the entire farm is being hit.) I've unblocked it. Considering that it's a sort-of product name, which the linked article discusses, we'll probably be hit with more spam. It means we'll need to figure out another way to block the spam, rather than shut down every posting about Cannabis Light. --Saftzie (talk) 18:44, 29 July 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks. The global hammer is probably fine in this case since there may not be many cannabis related wikis on Shoutwiki. If I could figure out regex phrase searching I could put it in the spam whitelist. I looked around and I am baffled about regex searching for a specific phrase. --Timeshifter (talk) 22:31, 29 July 2020 (UTC)
Can You Remove The CreateWiki-Ban[edit source]
Can You Remove The CreateWiki-Ban? --bpn (talk) 8:57, 10 August 2020 (UTC)
- Hub admins, such as Saftzie and I, are not able to remove it. I assume that there's a valid reason for the ban in the first place, and asking for its removal would thus be pointless. --miki-- (talk) 11:38, 10 August 2020 (UTC)
- If you're asking about the limit of 5 wikis per founder, it's built in to the CreateWiki extension on purpose to prevent abuse. I'd refer you to Lcawte's response when you asked him. I know he has recently updated the extension and may have implemented new abuse prevention mechanisms, like adding all your alternates to a special group. These are also intentional, of course. If you mean something else, as miki says, Hub admins have very little power over the configuration of extensions like CreateWiki. --Saftzie (talk) 21:20, 10 August 2020 (UTC)
- For the avoidance of doubt, yes, there's a createwiki-ban user group on Hub now, which prevents members of that group creating wikis (regardless of what other CreateWiki rights they have). Beckham has been added to it because I'm trying to be nice and not block him for wasting half my day cleaning up over two dozen duplicated wikis from at least half a dozen accounts, with various (outstanding) copyvio issues, suspicious IP usages and what seems to be a rather unsettled community. This is being posted here in the hopes that the information is absorbed, as there have been various social media interactions where it seems replies to the user's queries have gone completely ignored by the user. But, hey! At least they can say they inspired a feature. --Lewis Cawte (talk) 21:55, 10 August 2020 (UTC)
